Logitech G930

The Logitech G930 is produced by Logitech, a significant competitor on the hardware market, and has existed since 1982 when two Stanford Masters alumni founded the company in Switzerland. Originally the company focused on mass producing computer mice, but in the latter years they have significantly expanded their product assortment and now provide almost all kinds of peripherals from mice to gaming chairs.

A lot of people are worried about purchasing high-quality gaming headsets from Logitech because they have a reputation for being an all-around sort of company that specialises in selling $10 office mice. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Logitech has taken a great focus to Gaming related peripherals – including gaming headsets as of recent years. Perhaps they felt that the market was expanding so rapidly, as e-sports was soaring to mass popularity through the nineties.

Today they develop all the necessary peripherals for a wide variety of end users. Their gaming range is prefixed by the G for gaming, and can also be seen on their gaming headsets.

The Logitech G930 is the current flagship of Logitech’s gaming headsets. Therefore it must be their attempt at creating The Best Gaming Headset. But is that the actual truth, or is it a resounding failure? Read on to learn more!

The Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930 is a very visually appealing headset. The first thing you notice when you look at it is that it has a handful of buttons on the side of the left ear cup. This is extremely practical, and I’ll get back to this in the feature section below.

The quality is what you would expect from a top-end headset – perfect! Each cup is attached to the frame by hinges, that allows the cups to rotate quite a lot for the perfect fit.

The design of the protective padding around the cups is unlike anything I have seen on another gaming headset. In fact, you might almost compare the layer of padding to the traditional sound guards, that workers wear on building sites or similar places where you need to protect your ears.

The Microphone of the Logitech G930 is of the sturdy type and feels great, it doesn’t wiggle around but stays fixed in the position you choose. You can pull it up and down depend on where you want it, or if you want it hidden when listening to music.

Since this is a wireless gaming headset, there is, of course, no cord attached, but the docking station features a nice solid base and a cord that’s long enough by far.

My first impression of the Logitech G930 was that the G930 was insanely comfortable. Just like the G35, your ears are completely surrounded by the cups which means that there is no pressure directly on your ears. This is necessary for marathon gaming or perhaps plan events.

One thing I have to add is, the level of freedom you get in them is incredible. I’ve always found ways to get into trouble with cord gaming headsets, like rolling over the cord with my desk chair or simply dropping the headset on the floor because the cord caught onto something.

You won’t have this problem at all with the Logitech G930. The headset offers complete freedom, while the base that is connected to your computer is firmly planted on your desk.

If you are familiar with the G35, you will be pleasantly delighted that this successor is noticeably lighter, which helps to wear it for longer periods.

Features

The Logitech G930 Gaming Headset is one of the most featureful Gaming Headsets I have yet to see from any producer. You might think, well it’s just a gaming headset, how many features can it have?

Quite a few!

Apart from the fact that the gaming headset is wireless and features amazing quality on the microphone and sound output it has a ton of external features that I haven’t seen on any other gaming headset.

First of all the amount of buttons on the headset is quite high. You get 3 programmable buttons to do anything you want, I personally programmed them to next song, previous song and pause. But you can literally do anything with the buttons.

Then you have a mute button, a volume slider and a surround switch. Having the slider on the headset itself is an excellent position since the headset doesn’t have a cord where other headsets would have the slider. The mute button comes in handy quite often, and the surround button means that you can switch surround off and on depending what you are doing.

Another neat feature is that the headset automatically mutes the microphone when you push the receiver all the way to the top – how awesome is that?

Peripheral Review

Sound

The Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930 features a very high quality of sound, as we are to expect from a Logitech Top-end gaming headset.

The Logitech G930 uses Dolby technology to emulate 7.1 Surround sound. And so the surround effect isn’t “real”, but it does a pretty good job anyway! I was kind of baffled at the quality of the headset, even when walking up to 10 meters away from my computer to sort out some stuff. I tried playing some different games, as you may know, I play a lot of counter strike, and I had no problem identifying where my opponents came from, more about that in the next section of this best gaming headset review.

One thing to note is that this headset has a fantastic music playing ability. Absolutely SPOT on by Logitech. I know this is a gaming headset, but oh my word I loved blasting my favourite music in these while dancing all over the place because of the wireless component.

Gaming

The gaming aspect of the Logitech Wireless Gaming Headset G930 is perfect. It’s no secret that the G series of the Logitech Headset range is substantially optimised for gamers – and it shows in the games.

As with other 7.1 headsets, the surround is a bit hit and miss. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great when playing new awesome games like Fallout 3, but when playing older games, the surround effect is actually detrimental to the usage at some points.

One bonus of the Logitech G930 regarding using it as the best gaming headset is that it has extremely comfortable padding, which means your ears won’t go sore anytime soon.

The wireless component means you can basically wear it all the time and don’t need to worry about cords.

The microphone transmits in very high-quality and blocks outside noise very well, suitable for voice communication programmes.

Wireless & Battery

The wireless component transmits on the 2,4 GHz frequency. I have no idea what that means, but it worked well in my house, and I detected no interference. The range is quite good, I was able to walk into the kitchen and experienced NO loss of quality as long as I stayed within range. Logitech claims it has a range of 12 meters, but I found it to be slightly better than that.

The battery lasts around 10 hours of usage. You gotta remember to charge it, but you don’t have to remember to turn it off as the Logitech G930 turns itself off after being unused for a while. Great feature for someone like me, who always forgets to turn my battery devices off.

The wireless base works well and does the job quite nicely.

Logitech G930 Review

Software

I don’t have much to say on the Logitech G930 Headset software. It works really well and allows you to configure your headset in very advanced ways. You are able to adjust the sound for each of the 7 emulated surround channels, you can program your G buttons, and you can play with voice morphing to have fun with people on skype

It also displays the charge on the headset, so you always know how much juice is left. If the headset is charging it will show the time left until the gaming headset is fully recharged.

Great software!

Verdict

The Logitech G930 Gaming Headset is a beast of a headset. It ticks all my boxes and offers a great audio experience in the game and alternative usage. The almost ending list of features is also a significant advantage for this gaming headset. Things like auto-turn off, auto-mute mic, tons of programmable buttons, great software and a great sound experience help to increase in value.

You will pay for this though. This headset isn’t in the cheap range of gaming headsets, but that’s also because of its wireless. The wireless technology has always been expensive to develop, and that’s the price you will have to pay for the added flexibility and freedom.

I think the headset is priced pretty fairly for the quality you are provided. I definitely don’t consider it a bargain, but if you want one of the best wireless gaming headsets on the market – this is definitely it.

Where to buy Logitech G930 you might ask. Well, I always recommend Amazon.com due to their low prices, reliable service and smooth delivery. Not to mention free shipping!

Logitech G930 Price and Verdict

Logitech G930 is an excellent headset that will deliver quality audio to your gaming experience. I have decided to give this gaming headset 4.5 stars. The 4 stars are for high quality, great features, great sound and a genuinely excellent headset. I can’t give the last half star, as the headset does still retail over $150 which in my mind is a fair price, but not quite cheap enough to warrant 5 stars.

I hope you enjoyed my Logitech G930 Review. If you want to check out other people’s opinion on the gaming headset, see the page below.
