The SteelSeries Siberia is a perfect headset made for gamers. It’s now in version 2 which made it even better. Today it ranks as one of the best gaming headset out there for the money you spend.
The Siberia line of headphones started many years ago under the company: Icemat that initially was made famous by its ground-breaking glass-based mouse pad, which gamers immediately made their top pick in the gaming gear area. Icemat used their success as a brand to release the headset, which became for many the best gaming headset of its time.
Since then Icemat was bought by SteelSeries, and the headset is now in V2 which upgraded the quality of the sound among other updates like positive changes to the microphone.
Look and Feel
The SteelSeries Siberia V2 Gaming Headset is quite remarkable with its innovative and unique design, which has been kept mostly intact from version 1. The headset looks very trendy and comes in a multitude of colours.
Perhaps the biggest eye-catcher of the headset is the top head strap, which allows the user to wear the headset tight, but without causing strain to your scalp or other skin areas that regularly come into contact with the headset.
The quality feels great, which is surprising because the headset weighs almost nothing. In fact, the headset is so light that you sometimes forget you are even wearing a headset.
The biggest design upgrade from former versions of the SteelSeries Siberia is the decision to have the microphone attached to the gaming headset itself rather than an external attachment you could put on your shirt, or on the cord. Personally, I think this is a vast improvement since the external microphone was a bit of a hassle. Sometimes you’d forget it was on your shirt and try to lift the entire computer up with your body as you were going to the bathroom, and sometimes you’d only forget to attach it and wonder why your team mates did not respond to your voice commands.
The microphone on the SteelSeries Siberia V2 is fully retractable, which means you can use the headset for listening to music in public or at home.
Comfort is obviously a huge issue when considering to buy a gaming headset. Luckily, comfort is a huge part of the design of the SteelSeries Siberia V2. The leather padding that is attached to the ear cups themselves and also the head strap is super comfortable.
This headset is designed as a gaming headset, which means you’ll be able to endure marathon sessions of gaming without feeling the weight of your headset bringing you down.
It’s also comfortable around the ears, and the cups are large enough to support even the biggest of ears out there. This is a huge plus when comparing to other gaming headsets, where you get this weird ear pain because the gaming headset isn’t well designed and poorly rests on your ears.
Luckily the SteelSeries Siberia V2 does not suffer from this, and I have used it for over 10 hours in a row without feeling any discomfort.
This SteelSeries Siberia V2 Review obviously isn’t complete without addressing some of the features of the headset.
I already mentioned how the microphone slides out, which means you are always ready to enter voice communication services with your team mates.
The headset itself features an amusing volume controller that is attached to the cord. This means that you can adjust the size of the game you are playing, or movie you are watching on the fly and fast.
The SteelSeries Siberia V2 is also equipped with very long cords by industry standards and allows you to have complete freedom of where to place your computer. No more unintentional pulling of the cable, because you have the limited length to work with.
This is without a doubt the most important factor when choosing the best gaming headset. We all buy gaming headsets primarily because we need them to play online games, like counter strike with – but how is the sound?
The SteelSeries Siberia V2 has fantastic sound quality and comes prepared with a USB sound card that further improves the quality. The bass is enjoyable without being too obtrusive, which means you can listen to music with bass for many hours, without having to take a break.
The SteelSeries Siberia V2 also features state of the art noise cancellation, which is particularly helpful when you are playing games. That way no external sound sources are interrupting you, and you submerge yourself deep into the activity you are currently doing. It’s also perfect for bringing the headset to busy places like airports where the noise cancellation works by shutting off all the hustle and bustle from the busy world.
Some people believe that just because it’s marketed as a gaming headset, you won’t be able to listen to music on it – but let me tell you the quality is amazing.
This SteelSeries Siberia V2 review obviously has to touch on the gaming aspects as well. The headset is being used today in competitive e-sports where the active noise cancellation helps the top gamers cut out all the audience noise when playing on-stage finals.
The comfort above also plays to the strengths of this gaming headset. Let me be honest and say there are days when I play all day, call it a guilty pleasure if you will – but using the SteelSeries Siberia V2 allows me to do so, without feeling any discomfort at all. You know how other gaming headsets feel after extended usage, your ears get sore, and you get mild headaches from the poorly designed gaming headset tugging on your skull.
I find the headset particularly useful for Counter-Strike, I’m always aware of where my enemies are coming from, and that gives me a sizable advantage in any game.
SteelSeries Siberia V2 Price
Surprisingly the headset can be obtained for well under the $100 mark and so well worth the price.
At the time of writing this review, the best place to buy SteelSeries Siberia V2 was on Amazon.com where you could save more than $5 on the suggested retail price: Go there to check if it’s still the case. If you find the headset cheaper anywhere, please let me know, and I’ll update the review!
I recommend Amazon because they are the world’s leading internet store, which means your purchase is from a trusted and reliable vendor. I have never had a problem with Amazon, and my products are usually delivered quick and did I mention free shipping on purchases over $25? Yeah, Amazon for the win!
As a loyal user of the headset ever since the release of the very first generation of the Siberia Headset I can safely say that this is in my independent, honest opinion the best gaming headset on the market today. The price is very fair, and the headset is packed with features that only leave you incredibly satisfied.
The headset has received almost exclusively positive rewards on the internet and managed to score 4.5/5 stars on Amazon (check it out here) which only very few products do.
For those reasons, I’m awarding the SteelSeries Siberia V2 the maximum of 5 stars. A highly recommended product.
